COVID-19 case case count rises in Jefferson County

Two additional cases of COVID-19 in Jefferson County were confirmed Friday by Jefferson Public Health officials.

A man and a woman, both in their 60s, tested positive for the coronavirus in lab results received April 23. One was a mid-county resident, the other one lives in the south county area.

The two new cases pushed the total number of cases countywide to 380.

COVID-19 test results were still pending Friday for 37 residents. Another 13 potential coronavirus contacts remained in isolation April 23.

Based on age, the greatest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases — 75 in all — have been found in the age bracket of residents under the age of 20.

The next largest age group of people who have gotten the coronavirus are people in their 60s; 66 residents in that age bracket have tested positive for COVID-19.

According to Jefferson County Public Health, a total of 22,273 tests have been administered for the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, and 21,856 tests have come back negative.

Based on gender, 195 males have tested positive for COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic in Jefferson County, and 185 females have tested positive.

A total of 26 residents have been hospitalized for the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, and three deaths have been linked to COVID-19.

County health officials reported that 344 people have recovered from COVID-19.

People are considered "recovered" at 28 days from the onset of symptoms if they are alive and not hospitalized, according to the state Department of Health.
