Jefferson County commissioners approved an updated fee schedule for use of parks and recreation facilities at their meeting Monday.
The new fees will go into place immediately, officials said.
“Staff and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board had many goals when figuring out this fee update,” said Parks and Recreation Manager Matt Tyler. “We talked to our partners, like the school districts and youth sports clubs, to make sure the fees work for them.”
The largest fee increase is around $5 for the Jefferson County campgrounds.
Lake Leland, Quilcene, and Oak Bay campgrounds are currently $20-30 per night.
Officials said fees for the athletic field and Port Townsend Rec Center will only rise incrementally.
Fees for county picnic shelters are scheduled to increase marginally each year, according to the county, including for the Rotary Pavilion and the Salmon Shelter at HJ Carroll Park.
The new fee schedule has been under development since April.
Commissioners also approved the launch of a new eight-hour fee for picnic shelters that officials noted will cost less than the previous system of doubling the four-hour fee.
“We heard from the public that they want to hold longer events, like weddings and family reunions, and our old system was too expensive. So this new eight-hour fee should help,” Tyler said.
“We actually slightly lowered our school sports practice and youth sports games fee to make sure as many kids as possible are able to use our athletic fields,” he added. “We also lowered the Memorial Field light fee because our new LED system is much more efficient.”
Parks and Recreation estimates that the new fee schedule will increase revenue by approximately $28,000 in the first year.
“Most of that is from the campground fee increases. They are now more on par with, but not as high as, the state parks,” Tyler noted.
