I find the controversy over the golf course versus park very concerning. There are a lot of people who love Port Townsend and have very strong opinions about what is best and they don’t all agree. What bothers me most is when folks start to demonize or ascribe nefarious intent to those having different opinions. I want to remember that all these passionate people care about Port Townsend (and probably don’t hate those that disagree with them).

What about a real compromise? Some days it is a park open to walkers and other days it is a golf course. Maybe there could be a commitment to try this for three years and revisit our options. Cost increases would be minimal. We could see how we like it. See how much it is used.

I personally prefer this beautiful green space be used as a park open to all. But I am also mindful of our city budget and want a solution that is respectful to as many of our fellow citizens as possible.
