Rainshadow Recording welcomes Hiroya Tsukamoto, a talented guitarist, composer, and storyteller, to Port Townsend for a concert at the Palindrome in Eaglemount Cidery.
Tsukamoto will bring his distinctive tunes to the venue at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 28. Tickets are $20 each from hiroya.brownpapertickets.com or at the door.
Tsukamoto was born in Kyoto, Japan where his musical journey began through playing the five-string banjo when he was 13, and taking up the guitar shortly after.
In 2000, he received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston and came to the United States.
Tsukamoto formed his own group, INTEROCEANICO, consisting of unique musicians from different continents including Colombian and Grammy-winning singer Marta Gomez. The group released three acclaimed records, “The Other Side of the World,” “Confluencia,” and “Where the River Shines.”
Tsukamoto has released three solo albums, “Solo,” “Heartland,” and “Places.” His past performances include several appearances at Blue Note (a legendary jazz club in New York), and Japanese National Television. In 2018, Tsukamoto won second place in the International Finger Style Guitar Championship.
This concert series is produced by Rainshadow Recording as part of a collaboration with Matt Miner, former producer of the Northwind Songs concert series held at Northwind Arts Center before the pandemic.
The concert is sponsored by Strait Floors and KPTZ Radio.
