In his Jan. 13 column, Ned Luce quoted a friend of his asking “how the Democrats might have behaved had Trump actually won the election.”

I think Democrats and their allies already answered that question, in 2016.

Despite widespread shock there were no claims made of fraudulent vote counts, no attempts to undermine public confidence in elections.

Democrats first mourned the loss. Then they organized peaceful Women’s marches in Washington, D.C., and around the country. They started groups like Indivisible to work within the system, prompting gains in Congress two years later. They kept working, especially in swing states, to get out enough votes to ensure that Trump didn’t win again.

That’s what’s known as using the democratic process.
