Retired media consultant Walter Parsons has joined the Centrum board, the organization has announced.
He joined Centrum at its January meeting.
“Centrum is honored to welcome Walter to our board,” said Centrum Board Chair Leah Mitchell.
“He has been a member of our finance committee for several years, and we’re thrilled that Walter has found the time to deepen his involvement with Centrum as we weigh significant growth opportunities for our future,” Mitchell said. “He brings a wealth of experience both in the arts as well as in leading boards, and a high degree of strategic advice and nuance to our long-term planning. We are fortunate to be among his many volunteer commitments at this time.”
Parsons was chief operating officer at KCTS-9 in Seattle for 15 years and is a founding board member of the Port Townsend Meditation Center, a member of the board finance committee of The Merwin Conservancy in Hawaii, and a founding board member of Silent Academy, a Port Townsend literary and visual art publisher.
Before joining KCTS-9, Parsons was a financial and planning executive with Exxon Corporation. He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, as well as a master’s degree from Stevens Institute of Technology and an MBA from Columbia University.
He was also a board member, vice president, treasurer and member of fundraising and capital campaign steering committees for Seattle’s On the Boards from 1992 to 1998, and he served six years as the president of Henry Gallery and was on its executive committee for almost 15 years. Parsons also served as board president, vice-president and chair of the finance committee for Copper Canyon Press in Port Townsend from 2002 to 2011.
