For some time, I have been deeply concerned about the homeless in Jefferson County.
For years the community produced a lot of talk but little results. That changed when Greg Brotherton was elected.
He didn’t just sit around in meetings bemoaning the situation. He spent a lot of time on the ground talking to people, particularly the homeless. He tried a lot of things, not all of which worked, but eventually enough worked so we could see that there were fewer helpless homeless. As a result it appears that the illegal drug usage and other problems of the desperate decreased.
Greg has discovered the secret to solving social problems: Listen, read, and learn about possible solutions others have tried, then listen some more. Show up, get your hands dirty. Minimize the use of consultants. Maximize the use of volunteers and the collective intelligence.
In my opinion, Greg is the most productive of all of our elected officials in this county. We need to give him a loud hip, hip, hooray, via the election.
