Brinnon assists at Mason County wildfire

Hoodsport Fire and EMS and five other departments were called out to the Finch Creek Fire just before 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 16 at Finch Creek.

Responders from the Brinnon Fire Department provided mutual aid to Mason County, and the wildfire also prompted assistance from the Department of Natural Resources and multiple other agencies.

Hoodsport Fire officials said initial crews reported smoke in the area and were able to make access within minutes, and found several piles of land-clearing debris on fire.

Brinnon Fire Chief Tim Manly said the fire was approximately 2 acres in size. The Department of Natural Resources brought in a helicopter to drop water on the fire. Bulldozers were also deployed to keep the fire in check.

Officials said the cause was determined to be a poorly attended slash burn.

The emergency response included Capt. Gus Goller and Firefighter/EMT Jenni Glasco from the Brinnon Fire Department. Other departments that deployed included Mason County Fire Districts 4, 6, and 17, and West Mason Fire.
