Jefferson County Public Health is celebrating 25 years of World Breastfeeding Week, Aug. 1-7.
A picnic is set for 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2 at Chetzemoka Park in Port Townsend.
Current and former breastfeeding moms, as well as babies, families and friends are invited to picnic in the park. Kathy Anderson of the health department invites people to bring a picnic lunch to celebrate and support those who breastfeed and the nutritious benefits of doing so.
Jefferson Healthcare and its clinics, along with Jefferson County Public Health, have come together to help moms achieve success in their breastfeeding goals, a press release states.
Recognized by the World Health Organization, Jefferson Healthcare has achieved the title of Baby Friendly Hospital. This year, Jefferson County Public Health received the gold level recognition for Breastfeeding Friendly Washington Clinics.
Breast pumps are available to WIC clients who are breastfeeding. To make an appointment with WIC, call 385-9432.
The theme for World Breastfeeding Week 2017 is “Sustaining Breastfeeding Together.”
