Body found near North Beach April 12

Man reportedly texted about committing suicide the night before


A man’s body has been found near North Beach.

Port Townsend Police and East Jefferson Fire Rescue personnel responded to a call Friday, April 12 from a person who reported seeing a man who appeared to be dead near North Beach that same day.

According to Port Townsend Police Public Information Officer Keppie Keplinger, due to the terrain of the area, it took law enforcement close to an hour to reach the location where the man’s body was found.

Keplinger reported the family had related their concerns about the man to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies on the evening of April 11, after a family member received a text message from the man indicating that he intended to end his life.

Officers located the man’s vehicle at North Beach, and searched for the man himself for several hours, from the evening of April 11 through the morning of April 12, but were unable to locate him.

The identity of the man has not yet been disclosed, pending the notification of his family.
