The 2018 sailboat racing season opens Saturday, Feb. 24 with the 27th annual Shipwrights’ Regatta, a regional tradition sponsored by the Northwest Maritime Center (NWMC) and Wooden Boat Foundation.
Boats of all construction are welcome. The race is also open to anyone who would like to try sailboat racing but do not have a boat themselves. Those who don’t own a boat are encouraged to show up at the skippers’ meeting to be connected with skippers looking for crew. That meeting is at 9 a.m. at the maritime center.
A free haulout is awarded to two lucky sailors, courtesy of SEA Marine and the Port of Port Townsend. Registration forms are currently available upstairs at the NWMC at 431 Water St., and online at nwmaritime.org/shipwrights.
Last-minute registrations are accepted between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24 at the NWMC in the Weissblum Heritage Building (the yellow building).
The race begins at noon on Port Townsend Bay. An awards ceremony is planned for approximately 5 p.m., upstairs at the NWMC.
The entry fee is $40. For more information, contact Catherine Leporati at catherine@nwmaritime.org or call 360-385-3628, ext.104.
