Award-winning folk duo plays Concerts in the Woods

Canadian folk-roots duo Two Crows for Comfort makes their Concerts in the Woods debut at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 4.

Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Two Crows for Comfort — Erin Corby and Cory Sulyma — have released two full-length albums of original folk music.

“We just love the rawness of the folk world and the storytelling aspect which is something that’s really important to us,” Sulyma said.

The pair originally met when he was dating a friend of Corby’s, with whom he was also in a band.

“There’s no hard feelings or anything, nothing was like maliciously done or anything like that. But it is just funny,” Corby said.

They performed their first open mic together in 2017, and it didn’t take long for them to realize the pair had something special.

“We started getting asked to do other things,” Corby recalled.

At that point, however, they hadn’t even settled on a name.

“We were like: ‘We should probably pick something if we’re going to actually have a go at this,’” Corby said.

Following the release of their debut, “17 Feet” in 2018, the duo was awarded Roots Artist of the Year at the 2019 Manitoba Country Music Awards.

Their most recent album, “Show Me Light” came out in spring 2021, at the height of the recent pandemic, putting a halt to their plans to tour behind the record.

“That’s the only thing we accomplished in those two years,” Sulyma said.

The pandemic did not stop them, however, from taking home a second Manitoba Country Music Roots Artist of the Year award in 2021.

With the pandemic finally seeming to be in the rearview mirror, Two Crows took to the road once again — this time permanently. Marrying their passions for travel and music, they now live in their 20-foot camper with their pup, Elliot.

“This is how we’re getting to make our living and survive, by going and connecting with people and playing our songs with them,” Corby said.

Now their rubber is hitting the road south of their border.

“This is our first time really touring in the states,” Sulyma said.

“This our first time seeing a lot of places we’ve never been. We’re excited everyday,” he added.

The Concerts in the Woods event is scheduled to be the duo’s last show in the U.S. on this leg of their winter tour.

You can find Two Crows for Comfort’s latest album, “Show Me Light” on all streaming platforms; vinyl and CD copies are also available for purchase at their live show.
