WSU Extension offers Master Gardener training

Interested in becoming a Master Gardener? The WSU Jefferson County Extension Master Gardener Program is open to everyone with an interest in gardening and a willingness to share their knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to make a positive impact on their local community.

This 12-week course includes professional education from WSU research-based online training; lectures from local experts on plant biology, composting, plant disease diagnostics, rain garden design and more; and field trips to outstanding local and regional gardens. Lectures and field trips take place 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Thursdays, Feb. 23-May 11 in Chimacum and Port Townsend.

Upon completing the training, participants give back to the community by committing to participate in Master Gardener programs that fulfill their mission to be effective community educators in gardening and environmental stewardship.

Applications are being accepted now and are due by Jan. 6, 2017. Class size is limited, so participants need to sign up early. Cost is $265; scholarships are available. See jefferson.wsu.edu/gardening for more information or contact Bridget Gregg, wsujeffcomg@gmail.com.
