Another death on SR 104

A second person has died as a result of a collision on Nov. 14 on State Route 104 where it intersects Paradise Bay Rd. at the west end of the Hood Canal Bridge.

According to Washington State Police, Wilbur L. Jurden, 83, and his wife Judith D. Jurden, attempted to turn left off of Paradise Bay Rd onto 104 toward the Hood Canal bridge. Their Dodge Ram was struck head-on by a GMC Sierra traveling west off the bridge driven by Alan Chan of Sequim, Washington.

Judith Jurden died on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at Tacoma General Hospital, according to the Washington State Patrol. Wilbur Jurden was taken to Harborview Medical Center where he died on Nov. 27.

The intersection has been the scene of a disproportionate share of serious injury and fatal accidents over the last five years, as detailed in The Leader in the issue dated November 15. The State of Washington is planning to improve the intersection at Paradise Bay Rd., Shine Road and SR 104 with a roundabout scheduled for construction in April 2024.
