“A Day in the Country” is the theme of the AAUW Port Townsend and University Women’s Foundation of East Jefferson County Kitchen Tour set for Saturday, April 28.
The 15th annual tour from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. reflects the location of the eight homes, all in the Tri-Area, Marrowstone Island and Chimacum Valley.
“The eight homes are located from above Discovery Bay to the edge of Little Oak Bay, so we encourage participants to start early and enjoy all of the kitchens and the hospitality center,” said co-chair Sue Conklin. “We feature remodels and new construction, from traditional to contemporary to Craftsman.”
Tickets for this self-guided tour of eight kitchens are $14 in advance, $18 on the day of tour, and are sold at Chimacum Corner Farmstand, Dana Pointe Interiors, Dream City Market and Café, Kitchen & Bath Studio, Over the Fence, Personalize It and What’s Cookin’. For more information, call 379-6454 or visit
aauwpt.org.
Many of the kitchens share similar themes, such as adjacent great rooms and good memories of collaborating with area architects, contractors, designers and craftspeople.
“We are lucky to live in this beautiful area with many talented local craftsmen and unique homes that show Pacific Northwest style at its best,” said co-chair Nancy Machette. “I love to see workmanship of someone who lives right here in our area.” Suzanne Graber also is a co-chair.
Kitchen features include a variety of uses for stainless steel, many colors of granite, cabinetry with modern functionality and hardwood flooring.
“This year’s tour showcases an amazing variety of pantry styles and a couple of jaw-dropping stoves,” says Linda Foard, who assisted with kitchen selection. Participants will see a blue cast-iron AGA stove that has four ovens and a 1935 Wedgewood stove that includes a trash burner.
AAUW Port Townsend was chartered in 1948. Numerous programs in East Jefferson County followed, including Career Day presentations for eighth-graders; high school scholarships and recognition in science, math, and technology; kindergarten phonics and literacy projects; and a third-grade math program.
