At the end of last week’s column I included a quote about “risk-taking.” The other day a squirrel in the path of my car and a car approaching from the other direction took a big risk. He ran to the middle of the road, looked both ways, saw death was imminent, and ran back. Was he successful? Only if his objective was to increase his adrenaline level!

Steven Gross is another marginal “car guy” like me. The good news is that he noted “Cruise-In-Port Ludlow” is scheduled every Wednesday near the village center. The event starts at 4 p.m. and goes until you leave. The first one was last Wednesday. The bad news is that Steven also noted that nobody showed up except him so he won first, second and third place in every category! No ribbons to show for his efforts though. He was so lonely. Let’s get it going when the weather gets better.

The youngest grandsons were in town last week. As it turns out I was coming off a cold as was the 6-year-old, the 10-year-old was getting a cold, and by the time you read this I suspect BJ is down hard with a cold. Probably started with all the doggone pollen this year. I am sure all you grandparents join me in marveling at the challenge young boys can put on a sewer system. I bought three Powerball tickets last week for the grandsons and me at $2 each. Two of the tickets had the “Powerball” number on it so they returned $4 each. Predictably the grandsons had the two winning tickets and I got stuck with the loser. A fellow named Jeff Dwoskin may have reduced BJ’s thoughts on Powerball to this truth: “If Powerball has taught Ned anything, it’s how to turn $200 into $4.”

The LMC Annual Meeting is Saturday, April 27 at 2 p.m. at the Beach club. In addition, on the Friday before, is the LMC wine and cheese party. No secret here, the wine and cheese party will make sure you are either hung over or still feel great about the LMC when you go to the Annual Meeting the next day.

“Quips on the Quimper” returned to Chimacum High School auditorium on Sunday a week ago. The event is really an opportunity to live-record two radio shows for NPR called “Says You.” The show was a benefit for the Jefferson Clemente Course, a free college-level humanities program for low-income adults. The cast included a panel of six, two of whom are local. One of the locals is former publisher of this fine newspaper, Scott Wilson. It was nice to see him perform again in public and he did a commendable job keeping up with the regular cast members. That being said, the whole cast, men and women, was in the men’s room when I walked in the door expecting to use the facilities for their intended purpose. I confess it is a little disturbing to get to the door and see a woman taking pictures. Not until I rounded the corner did I see the crowd, prominent among them being Scott who appeared to be standing on the toilet. Friends, this is just one moment in a life well lived. I just can’t figure out if it was his life or mine. Maybe both.

I have been having some problems with my email and a few websites being hacked. As a result I have changed my password to “incorrect” so whenever I forget it the computer will say, “your password is incorrect.”
