Drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the one-car crash that killed a Port Hadlock man Wednesday, the Washington State Patrol has announced.

The crash remains under investigation.

The State Patrol said Samuel R. May, 63, died after his 2008 Ford Econoline van crashed near Gorst in Kitsap County Wednesday morning.

Police said the crash happened as May was driving west on Highway 16 and crossed all lanes of the roadway before his van struck the pedestrian staircase at the Highway 16/Highway 3 overpass.

May died at the scene.
