Washington State Ferries will resume charging no-show fees next month to customers who do not cancel their reservations.
WSF suspended no-show fees in March at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic while travel patterns were disrupted and unpredictable.
The reservation system on the Port Townsend-Coupeville and Anacortes-San Juan Islands routes will again charge no-show fees starting Thursday, Oct. 1.
To avoid incurring a no-show fee, ferry travelers should only make vehicle reservations that they plan to use. WSF officials note that should travel plans change, customers have until 5 p.m. the day before their scheduled sailing to cancel their reservation without a fee.
Ferry riders can cancel their reservation online or call WSF Customer Service at 206-464-6400 to make changes or cancellations.
Officials also noted the no-show rates going into effect on Oct. 1 changed as part of a fare-and-policy package previously approved in August 2019.
The reservation no-show fee is 100 percent of the one-way fare paid, based on a standard-sized vehicle. Rates can be found online and differ by route and vehicle size; visit wstc.wa.gov/ferry-fares/2019-2021-ferry-fare-changes/.
