Ferry service shut down between Port Townsend, Whidbey

Posted

Washington State Ferries halted ferry service between Port Townsend and Whidbey Island Friday afternoon because of high winds and rough seas.

WSF announced the cancelation of service just after 1:30 p.m. Sept. 17 and said it would continue “until further notice.”

Ferry officials said no-show fees will be waived for any cancelled sailings.

The complete shutdown of ferry service from Port Townsend to Coupeville followed the cancelation of the 12:30 p.m. sailing from Port Townsend and the 1:15 p.m. sailing from Coupeville because of weather conditions.

Strong winds, with gusts forecast to hit up to 50 mph — prompted the National Weather Service to issue a wind advisory for the Admiralty Inlet area, Port Townsend, and the central and north coast of Washington until to 8 p.m. Friday.
