Women’s golf clubs announce latest winning teams, golfers

Linda Deal and Katherine Buchanan tied with a net 34 over nine holes in the April 27 outing for the Port Townsend Women’s Golf Club.

Second place went to Dee Sweeney with a 36 in the low net competition (gross score minus handicap).

Discovery Bay Women’s Golf Club gathered for an 18-hole round of “Alphabet Scramble” — whereby each player in the foursome is assigned A, B, C or D prior to starting — during play April 29.

The alphabet designates the order in which shots will be played; everyone hits a tee shot, the best ball is selected and the other balls are picked up. The selected ball is then hit only by the player next in sequence. For instance, if Player B’s drive is selected, then Player C hits Player B’s ball. The next player in sequence then hits the next shot and so on until the ball is on the green. Once on the green, each player in the foursome putts from wherever the ball landed on the green and the best putt is counted. The team with the lowest net score wins.

The winning team was Barb Aldrich, Katherine Buchanan, Judith Murdock and Dee Sweeney with a net 64.

The second-place team was Norma Lupkes, Wanda Synnestvedt, Jerry Torson and Cindy Westwood with a net 67.
