Winfield Dempsey Tweedie died August 7, 2017, in the hospital in Port Townsend. A memorial gathering took place outdoors at his home overlooking the north shore of Discovery Bay, August 17.

Win was born in Seattle to Archibald and Blanche Dempsey Tweedie. The family moved to Manchester, and Win graduated from South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard in 1960.

He joined the Navy and rose to Senior Chief of Aviation Electronics during 27 years of service.

His first assignment was Moffitt Field, CA, where he met, and married Betty Louise Wolf in 1964.

They have two sons, Kevin and Jim.

Win was later stationed in Hawaii, Patuxent River, MD, (twice), and Rota, Spain. In 1997 he retired and continued the same work in civil service in Maryland.

In 1999 Win and Betty retired to a long-time family property on Discovery Bay. After one winter, they became snowbirds to Arizona. They enjoyed many side trips with friends, including two road trips to Alaska. Deep sea fishing, golf and “just enjoying retirement” were on his list of favorite activities.
