Port Townsend Vineyards recently announced the release of its 2019 Estate Madeleine Angevine, a double gold winner at the Seattle Wine Awards, the Northwest’s largest and most prestigious wine award program.
Double gold is only awarded when all members of the judging panel unanimously award a wine with a gold medal, officials noted.
An area on the Puget Sound region not usually recognized for its grapes due to generally cool climates, the Port Townsend-based winery has seen the potential and proved that one can grow quality grapes on Portuguese Hill.
The Madeleine Angevine boasts “lovely aromas of white plum and peach nectar as well as delicious fruit flavors of ripe pear and racy pomelo,” officials said.
“These grapes were planted, nurtured, and harvested by hand in two separate vineyard blocks, each bringing something unique to this wine. There’s a bright, tight version from our ‘Home Block’ that blends well with a riper, more aromatic version from the ‘Forest Block.’”
The wine is recommended as a perfect pairing for a garden party featuring prosciutto and melon or homemade Dungeness crab cakes.
