You are a “people” person and you enjoy being with them. You have a “life in Ludlow.” You communicate with others on the issues of the day, your history, your hopes for the future, relieving yourself of your burdens and helping them leave their burdens behind. You talk, you email, you “post on Facebook” (really?), you text. You find a way to be with others.

There is the art gallery down by Sound Community Bank, where you can occasionally find Jeanne Joseph or Fran Bodman. You can go to the free movie night at The Bay Club. Of course, after the lights go down, communication with others tends to slow down. You can attend the monthly Dine and Discover, coordinated by the Lums and the Folsoms. Seeing friends, making new friends and enjoying a high-quality presentation on subjects of interest make for a very high bar set by this program.

Enjoying local friends and more food than you can imagine at the regular LMC potluck dinners at The Beach Club is not the place you want to be if you don’t enjoy people. You don’t want to be there either if you can’t handle corny jokes, usually provided by Steve Gross. If you want to see Bev and Bernie Kestler, you need to stop by the QFC almost every day to see if they are enjoying their regular “maple log” pastry. If you want to meet the one person who seems to know every man and most of the women in town by their first names only, drop by Sonja’s Bayside Barber shop. Be nice to her and she will also show you pictures of her new home. Frankly, you don’t even have to be nice to her.

I hope you greeted your good friends from the Rotary Club, who put up the flags around town to help you celebrate Presidents Day. (You might also thank those who annually subscribe to this service so that we recognize five of the national holidays each year.) It would be nice if the weather in the winter was kinder to the flags by leaving them flying on the poles rather than flying away!

However, if you really want to see almost every person in town, just spend some time down at Active Life Physical Therapy. Owner Michael Haberpointer is running one of the few businesses appearing to be expanding faster than anything else in Jefferson County. For the third time in about 10 years, I’m going to get therapy on some other body part that seems to be failing.

All this activity of meeting people requires some skills, though. I mean, you might want to rethink this activity if your attitude is that your people skills are just fine but your tolerance for idiots needs some work. Just saying.
