Here are my thoughts about what I hope the Port Townsend Leader can be for readers..what makes a good paper?
For me a good paper brings to light many sides of an issue. Like the New York Times motto” All the news that’s fit to print” and want to read stories that uplift my heart and open my mind to concerns that I need to learn more about. It is important for me to read all kinds of letters to The Leader as well as reviews of art and music events. A paper that highlights the issues in an objective way, with writers who are able to understand the many questions that need more attention.
I have hoped that The Leader would begin to show the many animals at the shelters that need new safe and loving homes. The untold quiet stories that many of us never know about. Our community has so many older people who need to find stories about their contributions to help make our town better in so many ways.
To be fair and share diverse points of view … to not put violent photos on the front page. But to show photos that inspire us and open our minds and hearts to new solutions.
For me a good paper leaves me wanting to explore more opportunities to grow and volunteer and find a place to share my voice … no matter my age or religion or sex. Thank you for asking.
