What A Valuable Experience (WAVE) is a food drive started 39 years ago by local ministers who saw a need to help the food bank. Initially, WAVE volunteers went by twos, house to house collecting food on the last Saturday in October.  Over the years Wave has evolved with Pastor Skip Cadorette coordinating it for the past decade. Skip stepped down from this role in January and the Mission Team at the Presbyterian Church volunteered to take the helm.  They held a meeting in August inviting local ministers and Patricia Hennessy, executive director at the Tri Area Food Bank to help coordinate WAVE 2024.  Since then, a core group has been meeting at the food bank site with Hennessy.  Hennessy has gone far above and beyond to help us promote WAVE to the communities.  If you visit the Jefferson County Food Bank Association website, you can see that. The WAVE community food drive now has a logo, banners, an on-line donation site and a goal thermometer for our goal of $35,000. Hennessy has coordinated food bank trucks to be in Port Townsend (Food Co-op), Hadlock (Henery’s Hardware), Quilcene (Windermere Real Estate) and Brinnon (Halfway House Restaurant) on Oct. 26, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for monetary and food donations. This ensures that everyone from Port Townsend to Brinnon can join in the WAVE. At the WAVE-holiday-donations Web Site, there will soon be a Sign-up Genius for community members to volunteer at the truck sites on Oct. 26.  Working with Patricia Hennessy has been pleasant and productive.  She is professional and follows up on projects in a timely manner.
