It’s been a year since this pandemic has taken over our community and country. I have asked myself what have I learned from this long time alone that will help me be a stronger woman?

These are some of the small insights I have gleaned from the past 12 months.

Take nothing for granted.

Wear my mask when I am with other people. Sometimes I even wear two masks.

Go outside every morning and enjoy the weather. No matter if its cloudy, rainy or snowy!

Share the best part of yourself with your neighbors.

Smile and wave hello when I am walking my dog.

Get vaccinated and be grateful for all the great doctors and health care workers who have volunteered to make this vaccination process happen.

Eat a lot of good foods to keep your energy up. Call a friend to say how are you doing. Listen to others as they find ways to be happy and healthy.

Clean your kitchen, clean all the rooms you live in and enjoy the result.

Find a way to have some quiet time each day. Follow your passion. If it’s music or writing or poetry or carpentry, just do it!

Borrow books from our library and show your appreciation by supporting the staff. Write letters to your far away friends. Try out some new recipes.

Most of all for me the lesson I have learned is to live one day at a time, set some realistic goals and enjoy the gifts of each day. And to call my son and love my dog more.

What have I forgotten?

Thanks to all the people who make my world better. You know who you are.
