We need Biden and Harris | Tom Camfield

I know, I know — “November 3.”

Because of the usual “lame duck” period, our current president will remain in office at least until Jan. 20. I use the Nov. 3 reference because most people are thinking in terms of casting their vote, and that’s where our thinking should be right now. Votes can already be cast in some states, and it’s not yet even October as I write this. Believe you me, Donald will be pumping out dubious coronavirus vaccine claims during the month ahead.

I’m definitely looking for Donald to lose “bigly” on Nov. 3 — but not to accept being the “loser” he has proven himself to be to the American public. We have a president who won’t wear a mask in pursuing his support by the ignorant, yet already has overseen the death of (officially) more than 200,000 Americans (and is negatively affecting the lives of millions of others). We have 4 percent of the world’s population and 21 percent of the coronavirus deaths.

It’ll be a couple of months yet in the best of electoral situations, and that would still include lame-duck spite like we’ve never seen before — executive orders, pardons, legal maneuvering, you name it.

Meanwhile what other dirty tricks, like hobbling our postal service prior to election day, can we expect from a president with little interest in keeping us alive?

For another five or six weeks until Election Day, Donald Trump will stand before a microphone at every opportunity and lie, lie, lie. This will include the many days during which ballots may be dispatched early due to coronavirus protections (which Trump opposes) or drop-boxing (which Trump opposes) or any red-state regulation that keeps legal voters (Black, Muslim, Latino, poor, elderly, or for any other reason likely to vote Democrat) separated from their ballots.

The truth is that he is a lying, self-serving cheat. And it’s long been obvious that he counts on the American public to be ignorant, greedy, racist and/or inattentive enough to keep him in a position of power. One of his ridiculous bits of action lately is rightly labeled “medical sham.” https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/trumps-health-care-sham-154334003.html
Meanwhile, Trump provided Joe Biden’s campaign team with the perfect fodder when the incumbent declared with apparent sarcasm: “If I lose to him, I don’t know what I’m gonna do. I will never speak to you again. You’ll never see me again.” Team Biden quickly put together a video clip of the moment and the Democratic nominee provided the kicker: “I’m Joe Biden and I approve this message.”

As the weekend saw the country — that’s right, the U.S. alone — moving into its (official) seven-millionth case of coronavirus (about which we are hearing precious little from the Oval Office), Donald instead had gone on record with a racial diatribe against Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-battleground state Minn.). “This is not HER country,” he said, mocking her birthplace. Ah, but it IS! And that’s just part of the reason we don’t want to keep him empowered where he is today.

Rep. Omar fled civil war in her native Somalia when she was 8 years old. She became a naturalized citizen some 20 years ago — and this became HER country. She was subsequently duly elected to Congress. No fraud involved in the voting.

“She’s telling us how to run our country,” Trump said of Omar at a rally in election-battleground state of Pennsylvania. “How did you do where you came from? How is your country doing?” Omar tweeted in response: “Firstly, this is my country & I am a member of the House that impeached you. Secondly, I fled civil war when I was 8. An 8-year-old doesn’t run a country even though you run our country like one.”

Donald attempts to justify racism among his faithful followers. You’ll notice that he also preaches masklessness — standing bare-faced but well away from everyone, including the stricken governors of Missouri and Virginia. “Barefaced” and “Lie” are often used in conjunction in a derogatory way — and they take on special expanded meaning when Donald Trump talks, bare-faced, about the coronavirus.

We Americans of various vintage have been voting for some 228 years now, and Donald is trying to convince us all that if he loses in the near future it will have to be fraudulent.

The Washington Post reports President Trump has complained that Jews "are only in it for themselves" and stick together, prioritizing an ethnic allegiance over other loyalties. Ruth Ginsburg, who died on the eve of Rosh Hashanah after 27 years as a Superior Court justice, was Jewish.
