Ed Merrill, of Cathedral City, CA, passed away on March 28, 2025 at age 86. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Merrill and sons Matthew Merrill and Sean Harper. His family is grateful to Analisa Cayabyab and her staff at Dolores Homecare for providing exceptional care to Ed during his final months.

Ed was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, in 1938. At the age of eight, he moved with his family to Oregon, then to Aberdeen, WA where he graduated high school. He received his BS in Finance from the University of Washington. Ed served in the U.S. Army’s intelligence agency in Izmir, Turkey during the 1960s before returning to Washington State to start a family.

For many years, Ed lived with his family in Okanogan County, then moved from Tonasket to Port Townsend in 1977 where he lived until 2023. During his 46 years in Port Townsend, Ed managed the U.S. Bank offices in PT, Hadlock, and Quilcene before becoming a local real estate broker.

In addition to his family, Ed’s passion was his Cessna aircraft kept at the Jefferson County International Airport, where he often was found “talking shop” over pie and coffee at the Spruce Goose Café. For 40 years, Ed was a steadfast and loving guardian for his special needs sister, Doris Merrill, who passed in 2023.

A man of integrity and kindness, Ed will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.

Condolences may be sent to Cheryl Merrill, 68720 Calle Tortosa, Cathedral City, CA 92234.
