Veterans to be honored at Gardiner Community Cemetery

Posted

The Sequim Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Sequim American Legion will hold Memorial Day services at Gardiner Community Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Monday, May 31.

According to Gardiner Cemetery commissioners, a third of the people buried in the Gardiner Cemetery are veterans.

To honor them on Memorial Day, a flag will be displayed on each veteran’s grave site. Flags will also be displayed around the cemetery, with large flags placed along the sidewalk.

The Gardiner Cemetery is the burial place for Marvin G. Shields, a Jefferson County native, and the only U.S. Navy Seabee to be Medal of Honor recipient.

Parking is limited at the cemetery; those wishing to attend should consider carpooling if possible.
