Unite the Families

Posted

Like many North-Westerners on Saturday this past week, I arose early to drop my crab traps in the water on opening day.

I drove out to Ft. Worden at 6 a.m. and dropped them off the pier then drove home to give them time to attract those prized Dungeness crabs.

On my way home, still very early in the morning, I passed a women pushing a baby in a stroller. The baby was happy, the mom looked as if she had not slept that night. Several blocks further, I passed a grandfather, (most likely), walking along the road holding the hand of a pajama clad young boy.

This was an early morning world I was not really aware of, but is familiar to every family with young children.  Parents everywhere do what is necessary to keep their children happy and safe. This is why parents from those Central American countries leave the miserable and dangerous places they call home, travel under grim conditions across Mexico and risk coming to America.

Many are seeking asylum and have a legitimate right to do so.

Imagine what it is like for the ones whose 2000 children have been separated from them.

They are now helpless to even find their children and have no way to comfort them.

I cannot fathom what kind of wretched soul it would take to favor a rule of “separate the families and lock them all up.”

What level of hatred is buried in the hearts of Jeff Sessions, Stephen Miller and Trump and all the others that support them?

Unite the families now.
