Two more Jefferson County residents have died from COVID-19, public health officials announced Friday.
COVID-19 has taken its deadliest toll over the past week in the county, with nine deaths reported in the past eight days.
Jefferson County Health Officer Dr. Allison Berry said the deceased were two men in their 70s who were fully vaccinated.
They died as a result of an outbreak in a long-term care facility.
"Unfortunately those in long-term care are just so vulnerable and cannot fully respond to their vaccine," Berry said in an email to The Leader.
The disease has claimed the lives of 13 residents in Jefferson County since the start of the pandemic.
The five COVID deaths reported Thursday also involved fully vaccinated residents at long-term care facilities.
The count of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the county also rose, by 14, from 841 cases Thursday to 855 Friday.
Five positive COVID test results were reported in Port Townsend, and nine in the mid-county area.
Ten of the new infections involved females; the other four involved males.
Three residents under the age of 12 were infected, along with three residents in their 20s, five residents in their 30s, one resident in their 50s, and two residents in their 60s.
A total of 102 test results are still pending, according to Jefferson County Public Health.
There have been 29,668 tests for COVID-19 in Jefferson County since the start of the pandemic, and 28,934 have resulted in negative results.
New test results from 94 residents were received Friday.
In Jefferson County, 606 people have recovered from COVID-19 and 55 people have been hospitalized for the disease. (People are considered "recovered" at 28 days from the onset of symptoms if they are alive and not hospitalized, according to the state Department of Health.)

Just as wtih the five frail fatalities reported Wednesday, without more information it's unclear whether their vaccinations may have contributed to these two new deaths. That seems to have been the case with an immunosuppressed woman who died in Seattle following her vaccination but was labelled a JeffCo CV death.

At the time, then-Health Officer Locke acknowledged that "most vaccinations, including the new COVID vaccines, are ineffective in those who are profoundly immunosuppressed" but still claimed "she was appropriately vaccinated" despite being given a treatment with lethal risks but no possible benefit for her.

That sounds similar to these two new deaths of "long-term care [patients that] are just so vulnerable and cannot fully respond to their vaccine" that Berry now describes, perhaps due to Antibody Dependent Enhancement (ADE).

It would be important to know if these residents, as well as the five men and women who died earlier in the week, had received a booster shot. And if they, or anyone receiving a Covid-19 vaccination has been adequately informed of the risks of ADE.
From a study published earlier this year by researchers from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology, NYU and the Division of Comparative Pathology, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Tulane University School of Medicine: Informed consent disclosure to vaccine trial subjects of risk of COVID-19 vaccines worsening clinical disease:
"vaccines designed empirically using the traditional approach (consisting of the unmodified or minimally modified coronavirus viral spike to elicit neutralising antibodies), be they composed of protein, viral vector, DNA or RNA and irrespective of delivery method, may worsen COVID-19 disease via antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE). This risk is sufficiently obscured in clinical trial protocols and consent forms for ongoing COVID-19 vaccine trials that adequate patient comprehension of this risk is unlikely to occur, obviating truly informed consent by subjects in these trials." https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33113270/

Other important questions would be, did the patients all reside at the same long-term care facility? If so, what kind of infection control protocols were staff and visitors following? Perhaps a follow-up article with more thorough research would be helpful.
