After a fantastic 2022 season, the Twisters Gymnastics Level 6 team capped it off with a stellar showing at the Region 2 Gymnastics Championships in Vancouver, Washington, winning 23 individual medals in the event.

Facing teams from Oregon, Idaho, Hawaii, Alaska, Montana, as well as competitors from their home state of Washington, the all-girls Twisters team participated with the best of the best in the Northwest from April 21 to April 24.

“We’ve got some really incredible athletes. One of our Level 6 athletes finished number one in the region on vaults, and some [Twisters team members] came in second place,” said Rebekah Beringer of Twisters Gymnastics. “We were going up against multi-million dollar teams, and we’re just from small-town, USA.”

The perennial underdogs had to battle through qualifying competitions at the state level in Tacoma before qualifying again to compete in the Region 2 Championships in Vancouver.

“We’re creative and have a really unique style of training in our gym,” said Twisters Head Coach Kelli Riley. “We’re in it for fun, but they’re really self-disciplined.”

A 23-medal performance from the girls was the perfect conclusion to their first season back since COVID shut down the gym.

“I would venture to say this team is probably the most decorated team on the Peninsula in the last five years,” Riley said.
