Trump: We know not what we have done

I completely agree that we are stronger together and I know for a fact that most of the people who voted for Donald Trump are not bigots or haters.

I have walked from one corner of this country to the other. I have met Americans in many different situations who welcomed me into their hearts and their homes. Some people might think it an extreme notion, the idea of a Black man with a huge afro, hitchhiking the highways. But 20-some years ago, that was just me walking across my country and I never thought much about it beyond where my next stop would be; 99.9 percent of the people I met were beautiful.

I fail to see how you [Opinion Forum Perspective by Douwe Rienstra, Leader’s Nov. 16 edition] equate talk show hosts poking fun at Trump to the disgusting way the fringe right treated President Obama.

By your reckoning if we are not happy with the way things are we should just go out and “do”?

My wife and I rise before the sun, get our children up, make them breakfast, get them to school and then go to work. At day’s end we come home, tend to whatever needs they have, get them dinner and then somehow make time to go out and “do”. I agree that we need to strengthen our alliances, not allegiances, with people who voted for Trump as we have barely scratched the surface of his shortcomings.

Fearsome? Horrendous? These are words that are going to surface frequently.

You use the word assumption when referring to Trump. That word has no place in the conversation. He has aligned himself with people from the Alt-right. I don’t have to assume anything.

God help us, for we know not what we have done. Truly; now is the time for all good people to come together.
