The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received 198 calls for service between Saturday, Jan. 8 and Friday, Jan. 14. Below are selected reports.

At 10:05 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 9 in Port Hadlock, a caller reported the theft of a bicycle seat.

The theft happened sometime the night before, but after 10 p.m.

The caller had a suspect in mind, and said the crime may be due to a money issue between the pair.

The seat was valued at $50.

At 3:32 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9 in Sequim, a person was calling on behalf of their son, currently incarcerated in the Clallam County Jail.

The caller said the son’s tools had been stolen from his home.

The caller was advised to make a list of the items that were missing.

At 9:38 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10 in Port Hadlock, littering was reported three blocks away from Cleveland Street.

Someone discovered several black trash bags that had been left by the side of the road.

Further investigation revealed that the dumped garbage was not within the county’s right of way, but a short distance away on private property. The property owner was contacted, and he said he did not leave the bags of trash there. Numerous other bags of trash were discovered, but a search for squatters on the property came up empty.

The jail was contacted for a crew to pick up the trash

At 11:46 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10 in Port Hadlock, a mailbox was damaged overnight.

It could not be determined if it was a case of malicious mischief or if someone accidentally hit the mailbox with a vehicle. A search for evidence left from a hit by a vehicle was unsuccessful.

At 12:51 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10 in Port Ludlow, a resident reported an ongoing issue with a neighbor.

The caller found a bunch of nails on his driveway.

A deputy visited the home, and found the resident in the process of picking up nails. The resident showed the deputy a plastic tub that was filled with about 200 1-inch-long roofing nails.

The man said he was installing cameras. The deputy suggested the man seek an anti-harassment order.

At 1:19 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10 in Port Ludlow, a woman said she was being harassed by a sister in California via a text message.

Her sister was upset about her releasing information that she did not want to give out, and the caller was concerned her sister would visit.

The caller was advised her complaint would be documented.

At 2:28 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10 in Chimacum, an assault was reported at the school that had happened on Friday.

An upset parent had slapped a nurse’s hand.

A deputy contacted the school and the nurse said she did not want to pursue charges.

At 4:55 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10 in Chimacum, a woman reported a case of fraud and provided a suspect’s name.

She said someone had forwarded her mail without letting her know. The caller appeared to be suffering from mental health issues and would not listen to dispatchers, but continued to talk over them during the call.

Authorities noted the woman had been involved in more than
171 calls for service since 2012.

At 7:52 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10 in Brinnon, a resident reported a suspicious man with a U-Haul that was in front of a neighbor’s house. The caller said the neighbor was out of town.

The suspicious man told the caller he had been hired to do work while the homeowner was away.

A deputy contacted the man and confirmed he had permission to be on the property.
