Training planned at Indian Island

Residents who live near Indian Island might hear the sound of gunfire and sirens later this week.

The Navy announced this week that personnel at Naval Magazine Indian Island will hold a security training exercise Thursday, June 4.

The exercise will be held near the main gate Thursday, and officials said training activities will include the use of blank ammunition, loud sirens and bright blue flashing lights.

Officials at Naval Magazine Indian Island said measures will be taken to keep personnel safe from any impacts from COVID-19, and people participating in the exercise will use proper physical distancing when practical and wear cloth masks.
