How horseback riders use trails will be considered when the friends of the East Jefferson Trails Connections return to the Finnriver Farm and Cidery in Chimacum this month.

The next public meeting of the East Jefferson Trails Connections group is slated to start at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13, with a presentation by Bob Hoyle, director of the Buckhorn Range Chapter of the Back Country Horsemen of Washington.

Hoyle also serves as the Back Country Horsemen of Washington’s work projects coordinator, and as a member of its executive committee.

Merrily Mount, of the Peninsula Trails Coalition, explained that Hoyle will be representing the Back Country Horsemen of Washington as a “We Share the Trail” partner of the East Jefferson Trails Connections, as Buckhorn Range is one of 29 chapters of his group in the state.

“He’ll be addressing not only the Back Country Horsemen’s past, present and future, but also their integration into the Larry Scott Trail, and their plans in Chimacum and the Tri-Area,” Mount said. “We’ll also have some updates on the new sections of trails, from Milo Curry to Anderson Lake State Park.”

Mount added that this spring is expected to see the launch of a number of trail-related projects in Jefferson County, whose Public Works Department has been “very busy keeping non-motorized trails development moving for our communities.”

As such the East Jefferson Trails Connections’ March 13 meeting promises an update on the Puget Sound to Pacific Collaborative by project manager Steve Durrant, highlighting the progress in not only Jefferson, but also Clallam and Kitsap counties.

“We continue to visualize the Hood Canal Bridge to Discover Bay section, with a focus on how we will connect to the Olympic Discovery Trail, as well as to the area’s communities,” Mount said. “Things are progressing, slowly but surely. We look forward to sharing time together, and bringing ongoing positive energy and momentum.”

The Finnriver Farm and Cidery is located at 124 Center Road in Chimacum.
