Tough winter break for Ranger squad

The Warriors came out to play-ay.

Crosspoint Academy cruised to its fourth straight conference win by beating the Rangers on their home turf 50-10 in girls varsity basketball last week.

Crosspoint got out to a 6-0 start early in the first quarter, and led 16-0 with 30 seconds left in the quarter.

The Warriors kept pouring it on, holding Quilcene scoreless in the first quarter and entering the second stanza with a 22-0 advantage.

Quilcene found a bit of offense in the second quarter, but just a bit. The Rangers scored six points in the quarter and trailed 30-6 with 2:24 left in the half.

Turnovers and Crosspoint’s stout interior defense vexed the Rangers in the first half, and Quilcene’s scoring woes continued in the second half.

The Warriors continued to pull away, ending the third quarter with the Rangers in a huge hole, 48-6.

The victory for Crosspoint Thursday in Quilcene moved the team’s overall record to 4-4.

The game was the second during the Rangers’ winter break, and the second loss over the holiday vacation, as the Quilcene girls were also topped by Crescent, 50-13, on Dec. 29 at home.

The Rangers are scheduled to spend this week on the road, with a game Tuesday against Muckleshoot Tribal School in Auburn and a Thursday matchup with Sound Christian Academy Thursday in Tacoma.

Next week, the Rangers play Puget Sound Adventist Academy on Jan. 17 in Kirkland before returning home Jan. 19 to face Northwest Yeshiva High School.
