Washington state House bill 2049 seeks to increase our current property tax limit from 1% to 2.5% more. This increased tax burden would fall most heavily on low and middle income property owners and is a terrible idea. To me it seems wildly excessive and unnecessary. I generally support liberal and progressive policies, but this bill introduced by democratic lawmakers seems truly like taxation overreach. Why aren’t Democrats focused on government efficiency and curbing spending in Olympia instead of endlessly raising our taxes? Our state government needs to learn to live within its means and stop wasting money as all bureaucracies tend to do. Contact state Sen. Steve Tharinger and our representatives Mike Chapman and Adam Bernbaum to demand our state spends money wisely and eliminates excessive taxation.
