Toastmasters host ‘According to Aunt Lena’ storyteller online

Portland storyteller Anne-Louise Sterry is returning to Port Townsend, albeit in online form.

Whereas Sterry had previously appeared in person at the Port Townsend Friends’ Meeting House as part of last December’s “First Friday Story Night,” conducted by the Quimper Storytelling Guild, April 30 will see Sterry conduct two online workshops through Zoom, courtesy of the Jefferson County and Professionally Speaking Toastmasters.

Noted local Toastmaster Jean McDonald described Sterry as “an extraordinary performer and international renowned motivational speaker, whose joy in singing and storytelling is contagious.”

Sterry’s first workshop from noon to 1:30 p.m. will cover basic storytelling, while her evening workshop from 7 to 8:30 p.m. will explore the difference between storytelling and speaking, as well as the use of character voices and humor.

“Online workshops and club meetings have been a source of community and education for the public during this time of isolation,” McDonald said. “People are finding it a fun way to communicate. Yes, it can be hard for some to get used to the technology, but we are here to help.”

Both workshops will include parts of Sterry’s “According to Aunt Lena” one-woman show, and the Zoom link to take part is at Jeffco.ToastmastersClubs.org.

“We currently do not have a maximum number for attendees,” McDonald said. “I believe our account can accommodate up to 100.”

For more information, including how to navigate Zoom, please contact McDonald at 360-789-7691 or JeanRMcDonald@gmail.com.
