Tipsy Gypsy brings the spirit(s)

A mobile bar service in town has been shaking up an intoxicating mix of fun service, social purpose, and community.

Tipsy Gypsy was created by Heidi Haney, a longtime Washingtonian, in 2017 as a response to being laid off from her job.

“I quickly fell back on my bartending skills when my corporate life got sucked out from underneath me,” she explained.

Now, she makes the pour decisions and Tipsy Gypsy has become the Olympic Peninsula’s one-stop shop for good times.

In just five or so years of operation, the mobile service has made a name for itself across the peninsula and the greater Seattle area. Haney and Tipsy Gypsy have been named the preferred bartender for several venues in the area including the Northwest Maritime Center, the Port Gamble Wedding Pavilion, the Kingston House, Cedar Springs in Poulsbo, the Nature Bridge at Lake Crescent, and the Shafer Baillie Mansion in Seattle’s Capitol Hill.

With multiple themed bars for use and more in the works, Tipsy Gypsy has something to spice up every event.

“I have a temporary bar, a tiki bar, and what I call my wine bar. It’s just a beautiful maple slab on top of two wine barrels,” she said.

Accompanied by a small team, her service does more than just tend bar at events.

The business offers stemware rental to ease a host’s workload; event staffing to serve, bus, and clean the night away; and menu planning of specialty drinks and signature cocktails. Even shopping services are available.

“If someone has an event and they don’t want to lift a finger,” Haney said, “I can do everything from shopping for the alcohol to serving the alcohol.”

And everything in between.

Whether it’s a wedding, corporate event, or private party, Tipsy Gypsy does it all to make sure clients have fun while they do the work.

Private wine tastings are offered for small and large groups. Tipsy Gypsy’s sailboat is also available to charter for an intimate evening afloat.

Not only does Tipsy Gypsy operate with a commitment to fun, they also have a commitment to the community and the earth, Haney said. Tipsy Gypsy is a social purpose corporation, which enables the business to consider social or environmental issues in its decision-making.

“My focus for my social purpose corporation is the environment,” she explained.

“I focus on zero waste events. So I don’t do plastic straws; I don’t do plastic disposable cups.”

Instead, she encourages things like the use of Mason jars for guests to minimize waste at events. The use of biodegradable products also enables Tipsy Gypsy to do its part for the environment.

They also work to serve local partners in the community, buying local wares, using local products, and promoting other businesses in the area.

Causes close to home are close to the heart of Tipsy Gypsy, as well, Haney said. Either through donating regularly or holding fundraisers, they support charities that help women in need, the homeless and the hungry.

Haney described the business as a blessing.

“I’ve really had a good run at this,” she said of Tipsy Gypsy’s early on success.

“It’s been a really great start. I’ve been very blessed.”

Tipsy Gypsy is steadily bouncing back after the impact of the pandemic with events dotting their calendar well into 2022.

With the addition of new themed bars and services, Haney is looking forward to getting to work and helping others celebrate.

She said the things she loves most about her business is getting to help create memories and magic for others.

“Who doesn’t love watching people be in love?” she asked.

“Doing the weddings is really, really fun because you’re involved in one of the most intimate moments of a person’s life,” she added.

“I think, for me, the best thing is just helping people create memories.”
