The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 140 calls between Friday, Dec. 31, and Thursday, Jan. 6. Below are selected reports.
At 11:15 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, a person walked in to the police department on Blaine Street and said she was the victim of online fraud. Offices reviewed a suspicious email and determined that it was a phishing attempt. The person said she would have her children help her reset her password.
At 12:35 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, a man in the 2000 block of 14th Street said that his wife wouldn’t let him in the house. He flagged down the person who called the police. Officers were told that there were ongoing dementia and mental health issues. The man, who was rumored to have COVID, said a few days previous that he was moving out and did not take his keys with him. The man’s mother-in-law answered the door when officers knocked. The man’s wife, who was inside the residence, said the man would not leave her alone. The man was transported to Jefferson Healthcare.
At 9:25 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, officers received three separate calls in the vicinity of the 220 block of Haines Street about a very loud explosion. One caller said it was not fireworks, but perhaps an exploded transformer; another caller said it could be either. No power outage was apparent.
At 7:53 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, a small landslide was reported to be blocking the west lane of Water Street near the 1600 block. Officers and a street crew were notified, and the street crew cleaned up the debris.
At 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, a woman in the 800 block of Haines Street called to report that a friend had not been answering her calls and had missed several appointments. Officers arrived at the friend’s home, where she met them at the door, told officers to contact her attorney, and stated that she didn’t need any help.
At 1:10 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, a burglary was reported in the 1100 block of Water Street. The Cherry Street building had multiple broken windows, and two or more juveniles threw a refrigerator through a window. Most of the windows had extensive damage, and graffiti damage was also present.
