Three new cases of COVID-19 infections were discovered in Jefferson County residents over the weekend, officials with Jefferson County Public Health reported Monday afternoon.

The new cases were all reported Oct. 5.

The people infected with the coronavirus disease include a Port Townsend woman in her 70s; a mid-county man in his 50s; and a mid-county woman in her 40s.

The confirmation of an additional three infections increased the total number of coronavirus cases in Jefferson County from 72 on Friday to 75 early this week.

The county’s number of COVID-19 cases had hovered at 71 from Sept. 14 until last Thursday, a span of 17 days that saw the county without a new positive test for the disease.

Through Monday, Jefferson County health officials said 8,756 patients had been tested for COVID-19, and negative test results had been returned for 8,625 patients.

Test results are still pending for 56 residents.

Overall, 0.86 percent of those who have been tested for COVID-19 have been found to be infected in JeffCo.

The two-week COVID-19 rate, based on the number of positive COVID tests per a population of 100,000, stands at 9.4 in the county. Those numbers are based on the time span of Sept. 20 through Oct. 3.

Countywide, most of the COVID-19 infections have been linked to Port Townsend residents.

A total of 38 Port Townsend residents have tested positive for COVID. Thirty residents in mid-county have gotten the disease, and COVID-19 has been found in seven south county residents (the south county area includes Quilcene, Brinnon, and West Jefferson).
