Thomas James Blazey passed peacefully at his home in Port Townsend on Sept. 7. He was born on Dec. 1, 1933 in Endicott, NY to parents who immigrated from Czechoslovakia. When Tom graduated from high school, he set off to travel across the USA. At the end of that year he joined the army and was stationed in Germany. When he left the service, he returned to Endicott and received a degree in geology from Binghamton University. It was, however, the beginning of the age of technology and Tom was quickly hired and trained by IBM in computer science technology. He worked in this field from the east to west coast as a consultant and manager for various companies until he retired in Port Townsend.

Tom was a loving husband to Diana Blazey and a proud father of Pamela Blazey Deppen, Thomas Blazey Jr., and Teresa Blazey. He was proud of his beloved grandchildren Marlon and Lee Deppen and Chole Blazey.

Life was meant to be enjoyed with family and friends, so we were with him when traveling foreign countries, hiking, backpacking and especially sailing in his boat. He was an avid reader and loved playing chess, especially participating in tournaments. He built a telescope with his son so they could explore the universe together. Tom felt very fortunate to live in Port Townsend because of the mountains, water, woodlands and the community.

Our family thinks, in the words of a Greek poet, Tom is “Asleep, not dead. A good man never dies.”
