I wonder how many Trump supporters bother to read and actually digest the actual real news. It should be obvious now that executive orders and tweets have become our way of government. Our country is under the control of a vain caricature of a statesmen who perches on a golden throne while too many commoners don’t have a pot into which to (well, you know) —or a window to throw it out of.

“Go back where you came from” is an insulting remark sometimes flung at new arrivals to the United States, at foreign-born U.S. citizens — or at those who are native-born but belong to an ethnic minority. It’s usually considered an ugly racist taunt.

On July 13, Donald Trump President Trump denounced a small group of
“ ‘progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe.” In a series of tweets, he added: “Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.”

I’m not sure where Donald imagines these people “came from,” but at this point his remarks seem to reinforce the image of his underlying character, which was spotlighted when he referred to “s—-hole countries” not too long back.

It’s no surprise that as poster boy for white supremacists Donald chose to single out among his critics for disparagement—and group them together in a racist way—these first-year House Democrats. Namely, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota — who are widely known as “the squad.” All four are women of color; all but one are U.S.-born. Like Trump, Ocasio-Cortez is a New York City native; Pressley, who is black, was born in Cincinnati and was raised in Chicago; Tlaib was born in Detroit to Palestinian parents. Omar, a refugee from Somalia, was naturalized in 2000.

Omar said that as members of Congress, “the only country we swear an oath to is the United States” and called Trump “the worst, most corrupt and inept president we have ever seen.” Republicans have been largely silent on the matter; one among a few exceptions was former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld, a presidential aspirant, who said the president’s comment was “not just embarrassing, it’s disgusting.”

And just a couple of Osario-Cortez’s remarks in replying to Deranged Donald summarized volumes in my mind: “You are angry because you can’t conceive of an America that includes us,” the New York Democrat responded. “You rely on a frightened America for your plunder . . .On top of not accepting an America that elected us, you cannot accept that we don’t fear you, either,” she continued. “You can’t accept that we will call your bluff & offer a positive vision for this country. And that’s what makes you seethe.”

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi: Trump has “gone beyond his own low standards using disgraceful language about members of Congress . . . Trump’s ‘Make America great again’ slogan has always been about make America white again.”

While much of society called for a Trump apology he just doubled down on his xenophobic attack with Tuesday smear tweets about the four women: “Horrible anti-Israel, anti-USA, pro-terrorists & public shouting of the F…word, among many other terrible things,” he ranted to his low-mentality base supporters in his best elementary schoolyard manner. He continued to shout about “the filthy and hate-laced things they have said” (THEY have said?) They are “pro Al-Qaeda,” he said at one point. He is preaching hate and devision, an ego-driven competitive existence throughout our society.
