The Leader is excited to announce the hiring of Donna Etchey, 20-year veteran of the newspaper industry, as the publisher of The Leader.

Etchey started her career as the publisher of the North Kitsap Herald, eventually becoming the general manager of five community newspapers in Kitsap County.

As a long time Rotarian and past president of the Poulsbo and Kingston chambers of commerce, she looks forward to connecting with Jefferson County’s business community.

She also previously served on the board of directors of Visit Kitsap.

“I am very much aware of the responsibility of the region’s local community newspaper, and I am looking forward to reaching out to local business leaders and community members.” Etchey said. “In today’s world, as we face many challenges like the most recent outbreak of the coronavirus, it is important to be able to turn to your local community newspaper to find out what is happening in your neck of the woods.”

When she is not at her desk or out in the community, Etchey enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, cooking and gardening.

Etchey has three grown children who live in the Pacific Northwest and is proud to be grandmother to two beautiful grandsons ages 3 and 7.

“We’re so pleased to welcome Etchey into the community and our newspaper,” Lloyd Mullen, co-owner of the Port Townsend Leader, said. “Her enthusiasm and experience will be invaluable. She is a veteran newspaper woman with the experience to continue to lead one of the largest and best weeklies in the country.”

Etchey hopes to get out into the community soon, once social distancing practices are no longer being recommended.

In the meantime, she welcomes emails and phone calls to discuss life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness at detchey@ptleader.com or 360-385-2900.
