Recently, the Jefferson County Library District was awarded $35,000 of American Rescue Plan Act funding by the county commissioners to support our Digital Equity Navigator program.
Prior to that, we had received funding for this position from the Community Foundation/Connected Students initiative, a Department of Commerce grant, and CARES Act funding through the county.
Receiving this type of support from multiple local and state agencies reinforces the value of this critical position, and we wanted to take a moment to express our appreciation to the community leaders who have supported this program and made it possible for us to provide this essential service across Jefferson County.
Our Digital Equity Navigator is a full-time employee of the Jefferson County Library District who meets with patrons in Port Hadlock, Port Townsend, Quilcene, and Brinnon. Services include assistance with applying for low/no-cost internet and connected devices through the Affordable Connectivity Program, teaching basic computer skills classes, providing one-on-one tech support by appointment, and connecting with other community partners around “digital literacy” needs in our community. But — he’s not alone. We have many other library staff who assist with one-on-one tech support needs, lead technology-focused programs like “Tech Tuesday,” coordinate 3D printing activities, and keep our free public computers and Wi-Fi running seven days a week. It’s a big commitment that requires a significant investment — and we so appreciate the support we routinely receive from our community and its leaders to keep pursuing our mission of “Feeding Minds and Fueling Dreams.”
We urge our community to make even more use of these opportunities and we thank you heartily for your ongoing support!
