Thank Goodness! | Tom Camfield

It’s not officially certified, but it’s pretty much over now. It turned into more of a nail-biter than expected and the closeness leaves me a bit disgusted with the American public’s mentality. However, that manipulative full-time liar and narcissist, Donald J. Trump, has been consigned, at best, to being a one-term president (at least until 2024 if he’s by then not disqualified by incarceration or whatever).

Try typing merely “Trump loses, lame duck” into your search engine as a link to the immediately foregoing. As Selinger notes: “A man with nothing to lose is bound to care little about whether or not he kills his adoring fans in the process . . .”

Trump’s sanity will remain a mixture of narcissism, greed, and ignorance as he moves into his period of vengeance and he resumes his attack on the selfless aims of a free press. He prefers social media where outright lies are not properly challenged.

Meanwhile, I’m also quoting Selinger a lot lately, largely because she’s a better writer than I . . . and also because she is closer to the heart of the matter at hand. She pointed out, for instance, that Trump was an individual who “stood on a stage . . . and encouraged his followers to shout ‘lock her up’ about a governor [Michigan] whose kidnapping attempt was just barely thwarted by the FBI. This is a president whose bruised ego is felt by the world, and whose lost election, in turn, is sure to be felt by the American people. We will be punished for it.

“We already know that two major Supreme Court cases (the Affordable Care Act/‘Obamacare’ and a case involving whether or not undocumented immigrants may be counted in the census) will be heard in the lame duck session. But what executive-level vengeance will the president enact upon us when he realizes he has not gotten his way? We must brace ourselves for the absolute worst . . .”

The article is dated Oct. 19, but it seems pretty accurate.

And a lot of things won’t get started until a new president is inaugurated Jan. 20.

For instance, Donald will be busy creating difficulties to make his successors look bad . . . and still looking for ways to place his own faults at the feet of Obama. He seems to go out of his mind at the mere thought of a Black guy being so vastly his superior and possessing such greater popularity . . . even getting a considerably larger inaugural crowd way back when.

He started early. The Washington Post story Oct. 28 noted that Trump “will open up more than half of Alaska’s Tongas National Forest to logging and other forms of development . . . stripping protections that had safeguarded one of the world’s largest intact rainforests “. . . as of Thursday, it became legal for logging companies to build roads and remove timber on more than 93 million acres of forest (250,000 square miles) that includes old-growth stands of cedar, spruce and hemlock — and imposing salmon runs.

The Tongas stores 400 million metric tons of carbon dioxide and sequesters 3 million metric tons every year. But in the last 20 years a wilderness area the size of Mexico has been destroyed. Australia has had the largest fires in its history, the Amazon continues to burn . . . and world leaders are being asked to meet the Paris Climate Accord and climate emergency facing our planet (notably excepting Donald Trump, who withdrew the U.S.).

The new rule reverses protections adopted in 2001 by President Bill Clinton and “is one of the of the most sweeping public lands rollbacks Trump has enacted.”

However, it also was one of Donald’s last-minute “throw money at those possible vote-getters.” Those 1,000-year-old trees so off-handedly dismissed must have gotten their start about 1,020 A.D. So if we start their replacement today, we’ll have them back working for us again at the same age by 3020 (see preceding paragraph on carbon). Reminds me a little of the hasty replacement of a Supreme Court justice a few days before Election Day . . . on the off chance that she would be available to rule on some possible election-day motion on ballot-counting by Trump. No matter that in exchange she receives a lifetime appointment.

CLOSE BUT UNFORTUNATE.—.Democrats were aiming to pick up at least four Senate seats (while also losing Alabama), which would have given them control of the U.S. Senate. Apparently, that didn’t happen.
