The Jefferson County Sheriff Office received 160 calls for service from Saturday, Dec. 4 through Friday, Dec. 10. Below are selected reports.

At 1:04 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6 in Port Ludlow, a caller said a neighbor was shouting and revving the engine of a vehicle.

The caller said it had been going on all day, and also happened on Dec. 3.

The resident called back and said the noise had stopped.

At 10:33 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6 in Port Ludlow, squatters were reported on private property near Shine Tideland State Park.

A Park Ranger could see the camp. The caller said the camp looked old and unoccupied.

At 2:35 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6 in Quilcene, a caller asked animal control to respond after reporting a white-and-yellow dog that appeared emaciated.

The caller said the dog was so thin that the ribs could be counted.

Animal control responded and talked to a person on the property. He said the dog belonged to his mother, who lives out of town.

Authorities spoke with the man’s mother, who said her son owned the dog and he was living in a property that she had rented to him.

The son said he would take the animal to a veterinarian and if the dog can be saved, he will try to deal with the bill. Otherwise, he said he would put the dog down or take it to Center Valley Animal Rescue.

All of the other animals on the property were very healthy and it appeared the animal was suffering from a medical issue and not abuse.

The next day, the son contacted authorities to report he had relinquished the animal to Center Valley Animal Rescue; animal control scheduled a follow-up inquiry on the case.

At 3:32 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6 in Port Hadlock, a woman reported being the victim of fraud.

A cell phone account had been opened in her name, and she discovered the scam after getting a credit report.

The report said the woman owed $1,500 on the cell phone account. She said she contacted the credit agency and learned the account had been opened in spring 2019.

She noted she never has had a Sprint account, and that she was filling out paperwork with a debt collection agency to resolve the issue.

The woman was given a case number.

At 5:21 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6 in Port Hadlock, a woman wanted to know if a report was made about a man who may have been involved in a suspicious situation.

Authorities said the case was likely related to another call involving a man who was assaulted at his home and was taken to Jefferson Healthcare, where he was put into a medically induced coma because of head injuries.

One of the callers said the man had two trucks, but one was missing.

A deputy spoke to the victim’s mother, who said a doctor told her that the injuries sustained by her son appeared to have come from being severely beaten.

He had been found on the ground with injuries at a storage unit in Chimacum.

The case remains under investigation, but there was no immediate indication that he was the victim of an assault.

At 7:28 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7 in Port Hadlock, a caller reported getting a suspicious call that said someone would be delivering a package to her father at the Hadlock Motel in 10 minutes.

The caller thought the message might be coming from his ex-wife and was worried about potential harm.

It was unknown what the package was, or what might be inside.

The man had been staying at the hotel, and she feared his ex-wife might try to do something to hurt him.

When asked if she thought his ex-wife would go to the trouble of having a booby-trap device delivered to him, she said she didn’t think so.

A deputy contacted motel staff to see if anyone had delivered a package. The deputy then waited in Hadlock for a delivery driver to show up.

The woman was called back and said nothing unusual was seen.
