Haas has more relevant experience: 30 years as a prosecutor and defense lawyer in criminal and civil cases. Kennedy commanded a company of soldiers for six years and spent five to six years as a criminal prosecutor.
Kennedy misrepresented the facts in claiming Haas took nine months to fill the vacated chief civil deputy position, implying Haas is inefficient and lacks commitment to the civil side of the office. Haas told me it required several months to convince the county commissioners to increase the position's salary range and when they did he was able to hire an experienced attorney. Haas' statement was verified to me by a county commissioner.
Kennedy complains of excessive turnover, but several attorneys quit when Haas was elected, not giving him a fair chance to prove himself. Haas has replaced them with more experienced attorneys, which benefits Jefferson County.
