On April 1 nearly 600 public libraries from around the US and Canada will participate in National Library Giving Day. Started by the Seattle Public Library Foundation in 2019, this event has raised millions of dollars for public libraries.
Here in Port Townsend, the PT Library Friends and Foundation (Friends) raises money for library programs, equipment, and much more. Friends is participating in 2025 Library Giving Day, and it is our sincere hope that the people of Port Townsend will step up to support our library. This year, Library Giving Day donations will be used to fund new furniture for the Library Learning Center, (Pink House) meeting room. This meeting room is home to many events, from author talks to plant clinics to baby story time. The new furniture will be versatile, meeting the needs of the many activities in this multi-purpose room.
At a time when local community is more important than ever, public libraries play an ever- expanding role. Our public library both builds and reflects this community’s core values. The PT Library provides resources for all — to learn, share ideas, create, and grow. If you are new to Port Townsend, or a long-time resident who may not be familiar with the library, please stop by. You may be surprised at what is available! Let it inspire you.
You can support the Port Townsend Library anytime by becoming a member of Friends for as little as $10 per year, but we hope many of you will honor Library Giving Day with a special donation. If you’re busy on April 1, don’t worry. Donations are welcome any day of the year.
